ABSTRACT
Drawing connections between womanism and Afrocentric themes, this discussion accentuates praxes intrinsic to Black women. Critical Race Black Feminist theory theoretically links constructs of race and gender and gives birth to the term intersectionality. This conceptual crossroad, therefore, explicitly seeks to deconstruct the remembrance of Black women’s historical sufferings and narratives impinged by oppressive images, multidimensional forms of institutionalized domination, and pervasive gender-based racist stereotypes affecting their liberation. Next, contemporary occurrences that breed race and gendered and economic oppressive constructs receive nuanced attention. This article concludes with a salute to Black women social welfare pioneers whose legacy of distinguished footprints, stalwart leadership, and prominent contributions are left for us to follow and forward.
