Music in French geography as space marker and place maker

Abstract

For several decades, there have been broad research developments on the links between music and geography in the English-speaking world, initially in the USA, then in Europe and also in Asia, the Middle East and Oceania. In the French-speaking world, although developments are more recent, research bringing together music and geography is well developed, too. However, it was not until the end of the last decade that Francophones began to take Anglophone work into account and even this was inconsistent. In Anglophone publications, the work of the Francophones is almost completely absent. With this commentary, a Francophone–Anglophone dialogue could open new perspectives.

La música en la geografía francesa como productor de espacios y marcador de lugares

Desde hace algunas decanas, los enlaces entre música y geografía se han desarrollados en el mundo anglófono, iniciados en los estados unidos, luego en Europa y hoy en Asia, en el Medio-Oriente y en Oceanía. En el mundo francófono, aun que menos amplia, la temática impiensa a ser bien representada. Sin embargo, solo es reciente y parcial la toma en cuenta de los trabajos anglófonos. En ellos, la literatura francesa es cuasi ausente. Esta contribución entiende abrir las perspectivas actuales de dialogo entre ambos geografías.

La musique dans la géographie francophone: un faiseur d'espaces et marqueur de lieux.

Depuis plusieurs décennies, les liens entre musique et géographie se sont largement développés dans le monde anglophone, des USA à l'Europe, puis en Asie, au Moyen-Orient et en Océanie. Dans le monde francophone, bien que moins riche, la thématique commence également à être bien représentée. Pourtant, ce n'est que très récemment que les francophones commencent à prendre en compte les travaux anglophones. Dans le monde anglophone, la littérature francophone est quasiment absente. Avec cette contribution, nous ouvrons les perspectives de dialogue qui pointent aujourd'hui.
