Notes
The journal Current Issues in Language Planning (CILP, www.CILP.net) has undertaken precisely what language policies are used to do in some detail rather than as a global generalization. In the 10 years that it has been in existence, CILP has provided monograph-length studies of: (1) Algeria, (2) The Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), (3) Botswana, (4) Cameroon, (5) Côte d'Ivoire, (6) the Czech Republic, (7) Ecuador, (8) the European Union, (9) Fiji, (10) Finland, (11) Hungary, (12) Ireland, (13) Italy, (14) Japan, (15) Malawi, (16) Mexico, (17) Mozambique, (18) Nepal, (19) Nigeria, (20) North Ireland, (21) Paraguay, (22) the Philippines, (23) South Africa, (24) Sweden, (25) Taiwan, (26) Tunisia, (27) Vanuatu, and (28) Zimbabwe – a 29th monograph on Chinese Character Modernization is also available. The brevity of the list suggests that much work remains to be done.
