Edward A. McCord is Professor of History and Vice-Dean of the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. His research has focused on Chinese military–civil relations in the modern era, particularly during the warlord period. He is author of, most recently, Military Force and Elite Power in the Formation of Modern China (2014).
