Truncation (in the form of an *) was used whenever possible. All search terms were restricted to be detected in title and abstracts only (see [TIAB] or [Title/Abstract]). Within one PICO item, different words can be combined with AND. For the intervention aspect, “ketogenic” was combined with “diet”. At this place a proximity operator could have been used. The same approach could also have been used for the search term “diet therapy”. To detect economic evaluations, a published search filter [Citation73] was copied. Finally, all elements of the PICO scheme were combined with the Boolean operator AND to produce a single search strategy that could then be pasted into a MEDLINE search interface (in this case PubMed).
