SYNOPSIS

Objective . The authors explored the relation between adolescent reports of parental warmth and monitoring and the development of youth civic engagement. Design . Longitudinal data were collected from 759 14- and 15-year-olds and their parents in the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development. Results . Two-group latent variable models indicated that perceived parental monitoring predicted future civic engagement among males, whereas perceived parental warmth predicted future civic engagement among females.
