Abstract

True Colors personality trait spectrums are identified through a self-analysis of personality characteristics pertaining to specific colors: blue, gold, green, and orange. Through a professional development course in a large southeastern university, hotel, restaurant, and tourism management (HRTM) students self-identify their True Colors personality trait spectrums. Once identified, students learn how to more effectively use what they know about their own personalities to improve relationships—both personal and professional. Faculty/instructors learn how to identify the personality trait spectrums of their students to more effectively communicate with students and develop activities/projects to engage all students. Explained in this article are the True Colors personality types, how to identify an individual's personality trait spectrum, a profile of college HRTM students' personality spectrums, and implications for how hospitality faculty may adjust communication and classroom instruction to connect with all students.
