Figure 1. AKT modulates the autophagy-lysosome pathway via TFEB. Phosphorylation of TFEB by AKT decreases nuclear TFEB. Inhibition of AKT activity using pharmacological inhibitors or trehalose promotes nuclear translocation of TFEB and activation of the autophagy-lysosome pathway and enhances the clearance of autophagic and lysosomal substrates.
