Published online: 04 Aug 2024

ABSTRACT

Student resistance due to difficult thoughts and emotions that arise during discussions on culture is an ongoing challenge in multicultural counseling training. This manuscript describes the cultural humility choice point as a tool counselor educators may use to prepare counselors-in-training to discuss cultural topics in the classroom setting. A brief review of the theoretical frameworks undergirding the tool is provided, followed by a description of the tool’s primary elements and an illustration of how it may be used in a classroom setting. The manuscript is concluded with a discussion of considerations that may influence use of the cultural humility choice point with diverse learners and recommendations for future research.
