ABSTRACT
This article deals with the investigation of the imperfections present in four commercially available Indian tasar silk yarns: thigh reeled, machine reeled, single twisted (tram), and double twisted (organzine) yarn. Silk yarn imperfections under three different categories, such as thick places, thin places, and neps, are further classified into various groups according to their structures. The possible mechanism and source of generation of various types of imperfections are discussed.
