Abstract
First published in 2011, the Meeting and Business Event Competency Standards (MBECS) represents the first globally recognized occupational standards for the meeting and business event profession. In addition to its importance within various segments of the professional meeting planning community, the MBECS provide an internationally accepted body of knowledge, from which courses of study and their requisite meeting and event content may be developed. To assist in this process, an MBECS Curriculum Guide was published by Meeting Professionals International (MPI) in 2012. This article examines the structure of the guide, describes its uses, and discusses the implications of the adoption of MBECS-based curriculum throughout academic meeting and business event management programs.
