Abstract

We get two novel polymers [(Cu6I10)(BPB)2]n(1) and [(Ag6I10)(BPB)2]n(2) by the reaction of metal iodides with BPB(BPB=1,4-bis(pyridinium) butane dication), which are characterized by X-ray crystallography and IR spectroscopy. The title mononuclear compound 1 crystallizes in monoclinic, space group P 2(1)/c with a = 9.7050(17)Å, b = 15.426(3)Å, c = 15.992(3) Å, α =90°, β = 105.653(4), γ = 90°. In 1 there exist two styles of CuI centers that share the edge to form a 1D cluster-based chain. Compound 2 crystallizes in Orthorhombic, space group Fddd with a = 13.8931(10) Å, b = 22.2368(16) Å, c = 31.330(3) Å. In the anion, each monovalent Ag atom is tetrahedrally coordinated by three μ2-I and one t-I atoms ligands to constitute an infinite 1D chain with the organic dication BPB trapped in it. In both compounds, the cations ([C14H18N2]2+) and anion chain are combined by static attracting forces in the crystal.
