Abstract
A novel Schiff base-lanthanide complex of Er(NO3)3(HL)3 (HL = N-salicylidene-2-methoxyaniline) has been synthesized by reacting of Er(NO3)3·6H2O with the corresponding Schiff base in ethanol solution. It was characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the complex the potential tridentate ONO salicylaldimine Schiff base ligands coordinate with Er3+ ion through the phenolic oxygens only. They are formally neutral and in the zwitterionic form. A network of hydrogen bonds helps to stabilize the complex.
