Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Er(NO₃)₃(HL)₃ (HL = N-salicylidene-2-methoxyaniline)

Abstract

A novel Schiff base-lanthanide complex of Er(NO₃)₃(HL)₃ (HL = N-salicylidene-2-methoxyaniline) has been synthesized by reacting of Er(NO₃)₃·6H₂O with the corresponding Schiff base in ethanol solution. It was characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the complex the potential tridentate ONO salicylaldimine Schiff base ligands coordinate with Er³⁺ ion through the phenolic oxygens only. They are formally neutral and in the zwitterionic form. A network of hydrogen bonds helps to stabilize the complex.
