Abstract
A new thiazole-hydrazone ligand, 1-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-2-(thiazolo-[5,4-b]-pyridin-2-yl)hydrazine (HL), and its cobalt(III) complex, [Co(L)2]Cl·1.5H2O (1), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The ligand is orthorhombic, Pna2(1), a = 26.53(3) Å, b = 3.859(4) Å, c = 11.285(13) Å, V = 1155(2) Å3, Z = 4; the complex is tetragonal, I4(1)/a, a = 18.6405(8) Å, b = 18.6405(8) Å, c = 30.000(3) Å, V = 10424.2(11) Å3, Z = 16. In the complex, Co(III) atoms are coordinated by six nitrogen atoms from the ligand in a slightly distorted octahedral fashion.
