Abstract
By hydrothermal reactions of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O and MnCl2 with 2-(p-methoxyphenyl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (p-MOPhH3IDC) in the presence of 2,2′-bipyridine (2,2′-bipy), and 2-(p-methylphenyl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (p-MePhH3IDC), respectively, two novel supramolecular complexes, [Cd(p-MOPhH2IDC)2(2,2′-bipy)] (1) and [Mn(p-MePhH2IDC)2(H2O)2] (2), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, and IR spectroscopy. The existences of both hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions between the aromatic groups contribute to the structural stabilities of 1 and 2. Furthermore, thermal and photoluminescent properties of the two complexes have been investigated.
