Abstract
Two new salen copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes, Cu(salen) (1) and Ni(salen) (2), where salen = cis-(N,N′-bis(5-chlorosalicylidene)cyclohexane-1,2-di-amine, were synthesized and structurally characterized. The solid state structures of both complexes 1 and 2 present the slightly distorted square-planar MN2O2 chromophore. The Cu···Cu distance in complex 1 is 6.054 Å, while the Ni···Ni distance in complex 2 is 3.448 Å. The experimental studies were complemented by theoretical calculations.
