Abstract
The article analyzes the results of the exploratory effort in the South-Caspian Basin and the causes of failures to discover substantial hydrocarbon reserves in 1995 through 2005. A geologic concept is proposed that may help improve exploratory drilling efficiency. The region's reserves and resources are evaluated.
