Chromatin remodeling complex HDA9-PWR-ABI4 epigenetically regulates drought stress response in plants

The chromatin remodeling complex HDA9-PWR-ABI4 positively regulates the drought stress response by repressing the CYP707A1 and CYP707A2 genes. Under normal conditions, the CYP707A genes are expressed and regulate ABA hydroxylation (promoting ABA inactivation). Under conditions of drought stress, the PWR-HDA9-ABI4 complex represses the CYP707A genes through histone deacetylation, thereby inhibiting CYP707A-mediated ABA inactivation. This promotes the accumulation of active ABA, thereby inducing the development of drought tolerance. CYP707A1/2 in gray color on the right side indicates gene repression.
