1. Their use of the term negra and not negro reflected a response to the term cor, which is feminine, not masculine. Another response could have been ‘Eu sou negro’ or ‘I am black.’ They mean the same thing.
2. This suggests a way that racial and color categories can be conflated in Brazil and contradicts Sheriff's (2004) assertion that negro is never used as a color term.
