Design of a speech-enabled 3D marine compass simulation system

ABSTRACT

Traditional human–computer interactions cannot fully satisfy the needs of navigation simulation users. However, speech recognition can be integrated to improve interactions with navigation simulation systems. Using a real gyrocompass as an example, a three-dimensional (3D) model of a compass was built. Then, the compass's functions were simulated and the compass assembly and disassembly operations were simulated using 3D geometric transformations to finally develop a complete 3D compass simulation system. Based on research into key speech recognition technologies, speech signal preprocessing, feature extraction and speech recognition decoding were used to develop a command-and-control speech recognition module that supports speech interactions with the 3D compass simulation system. After integrating the key speech recognition technology, we analysed test results using the speech interactive instruction and discovered the main factor that influences the recognition rate, which may function as a valuable reference when applying speech recognition technology to other navigation simulation systems.
