2. The Six Secret Teachings (六韜), is a book about military strategy and governance similar to Suntze’s Art of War. It is a work of Taoist philosophy from the Pre-Qin period believed to have been authored by Jiang Ziya. The Guanzi (管子) is an ancient Chinese political and philosophical text named for and traditionally attributed to the seventh century BCE philosopher and statesman Guan Zhong.
3. “Bazaar” comes from Persian, meaning market.
4. Shanglin Park is one of the most famous royal gardens in Chinese history, containing many animals and plants from foreign lands, such as rhinoceros, elephant, peacock, grape and lychee.
5. Biluo is a kind of pasta from the West, which became popular and was sold in specialty shops in Chang’an (the capital of the Tang Dynasty).
6. This poem was written by the famous poet Li Bai in the Tang Dynasty.
