Simona Giordano, Exercise and Eating Disorders: An Ethical and Legal Analysis

Pages 216-220 | Published online: 29 Sep 2014

Notes

1. Binge eating disorder was not recognised as its own disorder in the DSM-IV while it is in DSM-V. As for anorexia nervosa, the criterion D included in DSM-IV and requiring amenorrea was deleted, in recognition that it cannot be applied to males, premenarchal females, females taking oral contraceptives and post-menopausal females. Finally, for what concerns bulimia nervosa, the DMS-V criteria reduce the frequency of binge eating and compensatory behaviours that people must exhibit from twice a week to once a week to be diagnosed as bulimia nervosa.
