Disability rehabilitation policy in Thailand: explaining why it has come under fire

Pages 111-117 | Published online: 16 Apr 2010

Abstract

This article critically reviews the disability and rehabilitation issues in Thailand. Obviously, the disability rehabilitation policy has predominantly been under a medical model. The article argues that as the government agencies only view people with disabilities as ones who want to be cared for, the voices of disabled people are persistently ignored in policy making and implementation. It therefore concludes that the Thai government fails to grasp the magnitude of disabled people's rights in disability and rehabilitation issues.
