Repeated acute inflammatory responses and autoimmune damage can cause chronic inflammation and promote carcinogenesis. By contrast, some autoimmune diseases have been associated with a reduced incidence or progression of cancer, as these pathologies can fuel the immunosurveillance of (pre)malignant cells. (b). Several studies have revealed a negative association between breast cancer and some autoimmune manifestations such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and psoriatic or enteropathic arthropathies.
