Abstract
Eli Saslow’s Rising Out of Hatred: The Awakening of a Former White Nationalist tells the story of Derek Black’s transformation from a White nationalist to an advocate for racial equality. Most of this change occurred during Derek’s college years as a student at the New College of South Florida, making this work particularly relevant to a higher education audience. The following review discusses Derek’s change process and how students responded to his story in two Diversity in American Higher Education courses.
