ABSTRACT

In today’s world sustainable manufacturing is a prime requirement to minimise the negative environmental impact and preserve the natural resources. Conventional tungsten inert gas welding is the most versatile process used to join different similar and dissimilar materials due to better quality and aesthetic appearance of the joint. The only limitation of this process is low productivity due to shallow penetration. Hitherto, many researchers try to increase the depth of penetration with different methods in TIG welding. The activated tungsten inert gas process is the most suitable process to joint different similar and dissimilar materials without filler metal and lessened energy consumption with increasing productivity. Despite these benefits, this method is not commonly adopted in industrial applications. In the present work, analysis and review based on the following (a) mechanism of achieving a higher depth of penetration through activated flux (b) effect of different welding parameters on TIG and ATIG (c) technical aspects consider during ATIG welding (d)effect of different activated flux on metals. The purpose of this review to use activated tungsten inert gas welding for larger adaptability and try to make a small step towards sustainable manufacturing by minimising energy consumption, filler metal requirement, and enhancing productivity.
