ABSTRACT

In this work we have focussed to examine the effect of carbon black (CB) (3 wt%) and reactive organo-modified montmorillonite R-OMMT (1–3 wt%) on rheological, tensile, thermal, and fracture properties of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). XRD curves shows that completely exfoliated structures were obtained using 1 wt% and 2 wt% R-OMMT as a compatibilizer in CB reinforced TPU composites, whereas 3 wt% R-OMMT shows intercalated structures which may be due to agglomeration of clay nanoparticles beyond 2 wt%. Using 2 wt% R-OMMT, essential and nonessential work required for fracture was found to increase by 16.8% and 74%, respectively.
