Figure 1. Illustration of the proposed approach for a water-air separated aquaculture system. Macroalgae are placed about the animal farming ponds and sprayed with seawater pumped from the pond, so that the algae remove nutrients from the farming ponds without competing for O₂ with animals during the night, improving water quality.
