ABSTRACT

In this study, principal component artificial neural network (PC-ANN) is proposed for the simultaneous determination of Os(VIII) and Ru(IV) on the basis of their catalytic effects on the indicator reaction between Ce(IV) and As(III). The differential equations involving negative synergistic effects were solved numerically by the PC-ANN. The PC-ANN architectures were different for Os(VIII) and Ru(IV). The output of Os PC-ANN architecture was used as an input node for Ru PC-ANN architecture. This modification improves the capability of Ru PC-ANN model for prediction of Ru(IV) concentrations. Detection limits were 0.05 and 0.08 ng/mL for Os(VIII) and Ru(IV), respectively. Dynamic ranges for Os(VIII) and Ru(IV) were 0.22 to 4.50 and 0.45 to 9.00 ng/mL, respectively. The method was used for the determination of Os(VIII) and Ru(IV) in synthetic samples with the compositions similar to the real alloys.
