Abstract
A photometric method for on-line determination of ozone is reported based on the reaction of alizarin violet with ozone at basic pH 10. The method is applied to determine the concentrations of ozone generated using an ozonizer and is compared with iodide method as guide lined by the International Ozone Association. Alizarin violet reacts with ozone in 6:1 stoichiometric ratio. The method is simple, reliable, and reproducible. Ozone concentrations in the range 1.0–5.0 mg L−1 can be determined on-line with out change in procedure.
