COVERAGE OF LATIN AMERICAN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT ISSUES IN CROSS-CULTURAL RESEARCH: AN ANALYSIS OF JIBS AND MIR 1987–1997

Abstract

This paper investigates how the business and management issues of Latin American countries are being covered in cross-cultural research. In so doing, this paper analyzes articles published in the JIBS and MIR during the period 1987–1997. The analysis shows that Latin America is an under-represented area in contemporary international business research and there has been no noticeable increase in the coverage of Latin American business and management issues in the JIBS and MIR articles during the period under review. The findings also suggest that there has been no increase either in the number of Latin American authors or in collaborative research efforts involving researchers from researchers from Latin American countries. The paper stresses the need for more coverage of Latin American issues in the leading management and business journals and recommends some institutional initiative to foster research interest on Latin America.
