Storytelling and Dialogue as Part of the Irish Peace Process

Will Glendinning Will Glendinning is the Coordinator of Diversity Challenges, He has worked in reconciliation and peace building in Ireland since the 1970s. As former Chief Executive of the Community Relations Council Northern Ireland and since 2002 as Coordinator of Diversity Challenges, Glendinning has wide experience of leading initiatives to develop ways to remember and learn from the conflict of the past. He is one of the founders of the Healing Through Remembering cross‐community project which explores ways to deal with the past and promote healing. He has facilitated cultural groups from differing traditions to manage change to meet the needs of a new multi‐cultural Ireland.

Abstract

The Irish Peace Process is now at the peace‐building stage. Inter‐community storytelling and dialogue is taking place. Diversity Challenges facilitates these encounters and supports individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds to develop their stories and commemorations. This paper draws from practical case studies setting out the process of engagement with groups and organisations to support the change process, to deal with the past and to build peace.
