Understanding chest drains

ABSTRACT:

This article discusses the indications, placement and post-operative management of chest drains for use in cats and dogs. It will cover various points which are important to avoid the development of complications. Patients with chest drains in place require careful monitoring and management to avoid the complication of drain interference and iatrogenic pneumothorax, and to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infection.
