Abstract

Fibre-reinforced plastic rubber isolators are composed of rubber layers glued to interleaving fibre-reinforced plastic plates. It is a novel rubber isolator and has the capacity to isolate vibration in both the vertical and horizontal directions. In this paper, the compression modulus and vertical vibration isolation efficiency of the fibre-reinforced plastic isolator were investigated. Compression tests of three specimens were introduced and their results were presented. Then, finite element models were constructed, and compression moduli from compression tests and numerical simulations were compared to validate the modelling method. Influences of parameters of planar dimensions, rubber layers and fibre-reinforced plastic plates were investigated with finite element models, and it was found that the vibration isolation efficiency of fibre-reinforced plastic rubber isolators increased with the increase of the aspect ratio and thickness of each rubber layer.
