Abstract

The study of manganese oxide nanostructures with various morphologies can lead to create and assign the most suitable structures for specific applications. Here, we report the synthesis of manganese oxide with three different morphologies through a modified hydrothermal method where MnCl2·4H2O, NaOH and H2O2 were utilised as reactants and sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate as a surfactant. Several samples were prepared to study the effect of different reactant ratios on the morphology of manganese oxide including nanoparticles, nanocubes and nanorods. The field emission scanning electron microscope results indicate that the size of nanoparticles and nanocubes were ∼43 and ∼39 nm, respectively while the radius of nanorods was ∼19 nm. The samples were characterised further by Raman spectrometer, ultraviolet–visible spectrometer and X-ray diffractometer.
