Abstract
The dermatologic surgeon is continually faced with challenging cases that require innovative techniques for reconstruction. This review provides a brief description of a variety of repairs that the author uses in his practice. Some of these reconstructions are more established techniques, while others are described more recently. The author also presents refinements and variations of some of these repairs. Initially, the review will focus on flaps that he uses predominantly for nasal reconstruction, including the paramedian forehead flap, melolabial interpolation flap and turnover nasolabial flap. Other flaps, including the Cupid’s bow mucosal advancement flap, dog-ear rotation flap, double O–Z flap and bilateral island pedicle flap are also discussed. The last portion of the article focuses on grafts: drumhead graft, clavicular graft and porcine heterograft. This article cannot cover the complete spectrum of reconstructive options but focuses on repairs the author has felt to be useful in his institution.
