Only patients who were smokers at visit 1 were included, and odds ratios and their 95% % confidence intervals are given for the various predictors at visit 1. BMI = body mass index, FEV1 = forced expiratory volume in 1 s, FRC = functional residual capacity, RV = residual volume, TLCO = diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide. The odds ratios refer to characteristics of patients at visit 1 in terms of the number of units as indicated and relative to the mean of the whole study population.
