Hypoxic-ischemic injury will lead to the downregulation of Bcl-2 expression, upregulation of Bax expression, opening of mPTP, release of Cyt C, and activation of Caspase-3, leading to apoptosis. The addition of AS-IV can inhibit this series of processes and protect cardiomyocytes.
