Table 1 Major phytochemicals identified in Dermaval™

Figure 1 Effect of fasting, glucose, and Dermaval followed by glucose on HNE activity in serum.

Notes: HNE levels were measured at T0, T60, and T120 after treatment. Subjects were treated with placebo (day 1), 75 g of glucose (day 2), and 50 mg of Dermaval followed by 75 g of glucose. Average values for specific activity of HNE on day 1 did not show a significant change. Treatment with glucose (day 2) significantly increased serum HNE by 175% over baseline (P=0.02) at T60 and T120 (P=0.04). Treatment with Dermaval (day 3) prevented the glucose-induced increase in HNE activity at T60 (P=0.005) and T120 (P=0.03) compared with day 2. Data are presented as the mean ± standard error of the mean (n=20).
Abbreviations: T0, baseline; T60, 60 minutes after treatment; T120, 120 minutes after treatment; HNE, human neutrophil elastase.

Figure 2 Effect of treatment on blood glucose levels.

Notes: Treatment with placebo was not significant (day 1). Treatment with Dermaval (day 3) did not significantly affect blood glucose levels when compared with glucose treatment alone (day 2). Data are presented as the mean ± standard error of the mean (n=20).
Abbreviations: T0, baseline; T60, 60 minutes after treatment; T120, 120 minutes after treatment.
