Abstract
Papillophlebitis, optic disc vasculitis, benign retinal vasculitis, and mild peripapillary vasculitis are all names that have been used to describe similar clinical presentations. Although there are some differences between these cases in the literature, all patients had unilateral disc swelling with good visual outcomes. We describe five typical “papillophlebitis” patients with minimum acuity loss, unilateral disc oedema, and corresponding visual field defects. The underlying pathophysiological processes are reviewed, which in turn highlight the need for more unified diagnostic terminology.
