A clinically important improvement in SGRQ score with placebo (−5.2) was possibly due to differential dropout. Conclusions: With best overall efficacy, IND 150 μg would be appropriate for initial maintenance treatment of COPD.

Conclusion: IND 150 and 300 μg once daily provided clinically significant bronchodilation after 6 months’ treatment and significantly reduced the risk (and rate) of COPD exacerbations versus placebo.

Patients felt reassured their condition was being monitored(95%) and were good at entering data (mean(SD) monthly compliance 89(4.7)%). Conclusion: An appropriately-powered randomised-controlled trial is required to determine whether the significant reductions in COPD admissions/costs were related to the intervention, or to other changes in the patients or local healthcare system.
