Abstract
Official statistics on annual poverty do not exist at sub-state levels. Therefore, the principal objective of this preliminary study is to estimate and project continuous annual poverty statistics at the county level. These statistics are estimated separately for a variety of demographic groups. The methodology employed here has been developed by the author over the past decade and can be easily applied to other jurisdictional levels and settings. For the County of Sacramento, the most striking evidence is the astonishing growth in poverty within the Asians and Pacific Islanders segment of the population.
