Abstract

Objective: To establish RANZCP Fellows’ and trainees’ views about the College practice of speaking about topical sociopolitical issues.

Method: A survey of Fellows and trainees residing in Australia.

Results: Approximately half of both groups (1039 Fellows and 311 trainees) returned the questionnaire. The majority of Fellows who participated in the survey (64%) and trainees (76%) approve or strongly approve of the practice. A substantial minority (22%) of Fellows disapproves or disapproves strongly. The rate of disapproval for trainees is smaller (12%).

Conclusions: The majority of Fellows and trainees currently approve of the College being an active participant in some societal debates.
