Abstract
This article seeks to investigate the emerging market of expert systems (ES) products and to examine how it might evolve in relationship to OR. The analysis is based on the results of a survey of the applications of ES techniques within the OR Society and is presented in terms of the dominance of the expert systems building blocks and the emergence of expert systems products.

Georgios Doukidis
GEORGIOS DOUKIDIS is a lecturer in the Department of Information Systems at the London School of Economics. He is researching in the areas of expert systems, simulation and information technology policies. He is co-author of the books Developing Expert Systems and Lisp: From foundations to applications, as well as co-editor of the book Knowledge-Based Management Support Systems. He is the Secretary of the OR Study Group on Expert Systems and Artificial intelligence.
