TQM and Management Science

- common themes and mutual support

Abstract

The three themes of this article are that:

Total Quality Management and Management Science have considerable commonality;

-

the methods and models of Management Science can contribute to the effectiveness of TQM;

-

TQM methods and thinking should contribute to the work of the Management Science profession.

Warren Gilchrist

WARREN GILCHRIST is Professor of Management Science at Sheffield Hallam University, where he has had various roles as Head of Department and Dean for the last twenty five years. He has worked in the areas of Statistics, Quality and OR and the interfaces between them and is author of two books on the modelling theme. Professor Gilchrist is ex-Chairman of the Institute of Statisticians and currently Chairs the Yorkshire and Humber-side OR Group of the OR Society.
