Abstract

This paper reports a study concerning isotopic ratios (18O/16O) of 27 commercial red wine samples from different areas of Romania produced during 2006, 2007, and 2008. The metal concentrations of the investigated samples were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The goal of this study was to analyze and characterize the region and vintage year influences on the isotopic and elemental fingerprints of these wines. The differences in 18O/16O ratios reflect the specific climatic and harvesting condition of each vineyard. Thirty metals with significant concentration were identified, from which potassium was the most abundant (between 142.76–482.56 mg/L). Chromium, varying between 97.38 and 624.78 µg/L, and nickel, 90.60–623.32 µg/L, originated from the technological procedure of winemaking. Traces of Pb, varying between 4.34–35.42 µg/L were also found.
