Abstract
Eu3+/Yb3+ codoped 12CaO · 7Al2O3 (C12A7) ceramics were prepared via high temperature solid-state reaction method, and characterized by X-Ray powder diffraction. Under the excitation of 980 nm laser radiation, efficient upconversion emissions were observed in 450–900 nm region and attributed to the 5DJ→7FJ transitions of Eu3+ ions. The proposed upconversion emission mechanism involves the two-photon cooperative upconversion process. The effects of Yb3+ ions on the upconversion emission follow a concentration-dependent manner. The Commission Internationale de I'eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates (x, y) illustrate the color of emissions can be tunable to purer green by increasing the Yb3+ concentration.
