Editorial

It is with deep sadness that we report the death of Professor Gerard L'Estrange Turner (1926–2012). He was editor of Annals of Science from 1981–1999, and the world's leading historian of scientific instruments. An obituary will form part of a special issue of Annals of Science devoted in memoriam to represent the breadth of his research interests.
