This special issue of Applicable Analysis is devoted to recent developments in variational inequalities, optimization and related topics.

The theory of variational inequalities emerges as a strong tool to solve the problems from optimization, traffic equilibria, partial differential equations, etc. Vector optimization is one of hottest topics in optimization theory and it can also be studied by using variational inequality technique.

One of the main objectives of this special issue is to publish some selected and interesting research papers in the areas of variational inequalities, optimization and related topics by some well-known mathematicians working in these areas. After a rigorous peer review process, we finalized 11 papers for this special issue. All the authors are international leaders in the areas of nonlinear and variational analysis, vector optimization, and related topics. The papers are devoted to both theoretical and algorithmic aspects of variational analysis and optimization including, hierarchical variational inequalities, vector variational inequalities, solution methods for vector optimization problems, cone-valued maps in optimization, image space analysis, time-dependent traffic equilibria, nonlinear parabolic systems, etc.

We would like to express our deep gratitude to Professor Robert P. Gilbert and Professor Yongzhi Steve Xu, Editors-in-Chief of Applicable Analysis, who have kindly accepted our proposal and helped to publish this special issue.
