Abstract
The three-dimensional analysis of the stress distribution in a long circular cylinder that contains an eccentric penny-shaped crack is discussed in this paper. The surface of the crack is subjected to a known pressure and is perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. We solve the equations of the classical theory of elasticity in terms of an unknown function. This function is then shown to be the solution of an integro-differential equation. We also discuss the case when the crack is concentric, and show that the final solution agrees with the known result.
